Halloween Blackout

One of Scott's clients gave us tickets to the Utah Blackout Game on Halloween.  Not only did we get tickets, but he also invited us to a tailgate party and the food was catered and delicious.  It was a little awkward because I didn't know anyone.  The seats were great though.  They were on the 50 yard line on the East side of the stadium, about 50 rows up... perfect.  This had to be my best Halloween Day in years.

We started out with the sun in our eyes and nice warm fall temperatures.  In 15 minutes it was a different story.

(Don't you just love the palsy eye. Yeah, I know, you can't even tell.  Lies, all lies.)

This Wyoming fan kept things interesting since the first half of the game sucked.
The UTES finally got their act together in the 4th quarter and won the game, but let's be happy they weren't playing TCU.
Finally, a Happy Halloween and all I had to do was wear black, my wardrobe staple.

Go UTES!

Scare Tactics

As I drove to the gym Saturday morning, I was puzzled by all the people I saw lining up on the sidewalks.  They extended from 90th to 94th South on into the parking lot at the gym at about 3-4 people wide.  Quickly my brain started thinking if there was a spook alley around, a rock concert, or someone was giving away money.  I couldn't remember anything posted around the area or at the gym about the big "event."  I started hoping that the gym was actually open and that I would be able to find a parking spot, since cars lined both sides of the streets.

I turned very slowly into the entry to the gym because there were people and children making a narrow aisle into the parking lot, and I didn't want to hit any of the bazillion little kids running around.  Luckily there were plenty of parking spaces.  It was only 7:00 AM on a Saturday morning, after all.  What person in their right mind is up that early on Saturday morning?

What in the world was going on?  I walked into the gym and asked that very question.  DUH!  Flu shots, H1N1.  The media, government, and health organizations have done a great job of scaring the living daylights out of the unsuspecting public once again.  Sure, they may be "free" but someone is making some big bucks, guaranteed.  Also, do you KNOW what is in a vaccine?  Living or dead virus of the disease with a lot of "fillers."  Are you kidding me people?  No wonder we have so many kids with autism.  Getting the shot does NOT guarantee you will not get the flu.

I've never had a flu shot.  I'm a healthy woman.  I work with kids everyday of my life and have contracted strep throat twice in 15 years.  Sure I get colds once or twice a year.  Who doesn't?  Nope, not gettin' a flu shot or an H1N1 shot (same thing if you ask me).  No, I'm not afraid of needles, either.  If I get the flu and die, you can tell me "I told you so," otherwise, I'm not falling for all this media/pandemic mumbo jumbo.

Layne's Visit

Alayna came to visit this weekend.
We had such a good time.
Andrea, Alayna, and I went shopping
and bought out the mall.
I told them to stand with the mannequins.
They were extremely embarrassed, and
kept telling me to hurry, but look how
cute they are!

Next it was lunch at McGrath's--
complete with strawberry lemonades
and clam chowder.
Then home to get ready for the weddings
in all the new clothes we bought.
Yes, the weddings.
First, their cousin Matt Nagel was married.
Then it was a long drive to
Midway to Teaguer and Gina's
reception.  (When we arrived, Evan and the
rest of the groomsmen were in the den
watching the Utes play.)
After the long drive home, Alayna, Scott and
I settled down to watch "Australia,"
since she had never seen it.
Sunday morning Evan spoke in
Sacrament Meeting and did a fabulous
job, by the way.  He is such a stripling
warrior!  He made me cry, then every time
anyone made a comment about him, the
tears would flow anew.
Alayna helped me make Sunday dinner.
I loved having such a great helper!
She's become quite the little chefette.

She made us brownie filled cupcakes.  Yum!
All too soon, we had to take her to the
airport and say good-bye.

Sabbatoge

So, I'm thinking after a week of no exercise, OK, it's time to lose a few pounds.  Easy.  Go to the gym and stop eating so much.  Always works for me.  Up I get this morning at 5:15 AM and off to the gym I trot.  After 3 miles on the tread, I'm feeling good.  A bowl of cereal for breakfast.  Still feeling good.
I get to school and at lunch, I eat the Smart-One low-cal meal that I brought.  Still feeling good.

In walks someone with three boxes of doughnuts.  I think OK, one won't hurt, I won't eat dinner.  (No will power!)  I go back to my classroom and it just happens that three of my students had a birthday today-yah-all on the same day.  Their "sweet" moms dropped off cookies, more doughnuts, and HoHos.  I'm dying here folks.  Not to mention how sick I'm feeling from all the sugar and my inability to control myself.

After school, during Faculty Meeting, the Third Grade Team gave a presentation and then said we all needed a treat for listening to them, so they passed out Whoppers, one of my favorites.  OK, I admit it, anything with sugar is my favorite.  I'm feeling like a real loser right now, but not in the weight department...

Colorblind

I dressed for work today, thinking I looked good (that's always my goal).  Black pants, charcoal jacket with a red stripe, matching red scarf and red shoes...a put-together outfit.  Along about 10:30 AM, I go to the restroom that has a full-length mirror and low and behold, I'm not wearing black pants, but navy blue. I had to walk around the rest of the day pretending that I MEANT to dress like that.

I think I need better lighting in my closet.
